Background Project

Thanh Vân Phan comes from Brussels in Belgium, with Vietnamese origins. She has completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineer in Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles. She pursued her studies with an exchange program in Ecole Polytechnique Montréal, in Canada, where she lived for two years, for a Double Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering in image processing. Her Master's thesis was on the field of classification of Age-related Macular Degeneration, a retinal disease, in fundus images, wherein she developed and validated an automatic system for grading the disease. Currently, she is working as PhD Researcher at IcoMetrix, on the ChildBrain's project "Structural connectivity analysis algorithms for young children’s brains". The aim of this project is to develop and to validate tools for analyzing the structural connectivity in children's brains. To do so, more improved models must be used instead of standard Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), that measured the diffusion process of the brain tissues. She finds her interest in Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Medical Imaging and Medical Processing. Her main hobbies are drawing and singing. She also enjoys travelling, playing tennis/badminton and biking.
